Malcolm X DJ 7

Pg. 28
"As the "nigger" of my class, I was in fact extremely popular-I suppose partly because I was kind of a novelty"

In this time, black people were being more accepted into society. White people were very curious about them, and in a way wanted to be like them. They think of them as a special guest. It probably makes them feel pretty good about them selves, from all the hate that happens, then all of the sudden they want to be like them. Now, in our time, it is still almost the same way. People still want to "be like" black people.

  1. This is an idea that was develop in the 20s and 30s - racist in many ways - the idea that black people were more "primitive" and therefore more "free" "more spiritual" "happier" and more "musical". This concept, of course, is wrong, too simplistic, and reduces people to a less than human status.
