Being associated with the whites, gave you a "higher" rank in society. You had to treat the white people with respect or you got in a lot of trouble. Malcolm's father probably treated him with more respect and favorites him, so that he would be thought of as a high class, african american. Where as his mother looked at him and thought of her white rapist father.
